Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information the Panchang app ("this site", "we", "us") collects, how it's used, and the choices you have. This app calculates Hindu panchang (Vara, Tithi, Nakshatra, Yoga, Karana, Samvat), weather, and location information for a place you choose or that your device reports.

Location data. When you search for a place, or tap "use current location," your browser's Geolocation API (with your permission) or your search query is used to look up coordinates, timezone, country/state, elevation, and a place name. This is used only to calculate panchang, weather, and the Location Info shown on the page. The selected location is kept in a session cookie so the page can remember it during your visit.

Contact form. If you use the Contact Us form, the name, email address, and message you submit are sent to us by email so we can respond. We don't use this information for anything else, and we don't add you to any mailing list.

Analytics & advertising. If you accept our cookie banner, Google Analytics and Google AdSense may set cookies to measure site usage and show ads. We also record a visit in our Supabase database after consent: approximate coordinates rounded to about 1 km, country, timezone, browser, operating system, device type, screen size, language, page path, referrer, and timestamp. We do not store precise GPS coordinates or IP addresses. If you decline, this telemetry and those services do not load.

We show a cookie consent banner on your first visit. Your choice (accept/decline) is stored in your browser's localStorage so we don't ask again. Only after you accept do we load:

• Google Analytics — measures aggregate site usage (pages viewed, approximate location, device type). See Google's Privacy Policy.
• Google AdSense — may show ads and use cookies for ad measurement/personalization. See how Google uses advertising cookies.
• Supabase — stores the consented, approximate visit and device information described above for site administration. It is accessed only by authorized site administrators.

You can withdraw consent at any time by clearing your browser's site data for this domain, which will show the banner again on your next visit.

This site calls the following external services to function. Each has its own privacy policy:

• Open-Meteo (weather, place search, elevation) — open-meteo.com/en/terms
• OpenStreetMap / Nominatim (reverse geocoding for "current location") — OSM Foundation Privacy Policy
• Google (Analytics, AdSense) — policies.google.com/privacy

When these services are called, your IP address and request details are sent to them per their own privacy policies - this happens whether or not you've accepted our cookie banner, since panchang/weather lookups aren't optional cookie-based tracking, just the app functioning.

Consent-based visit records are retained in our Supabase database for site administration and are deleted when no longer needed. The location-selection cookie is a session cookie. Contact form submissions are received as email in our inbox and retained only as long as needed to respond, consistent with normal email retention.

This site is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their information.

We may update this policy as the site changes. Material changes will update the "Last updated" date above.
